IISSAC is Coming!
The Soccer IISSAC tournament held annually has officially been canceled due to COVID-19. Because of this, another possible type of IISSAC sport has been brought up: E-Sports, or electronic sports, a video game competition. Mr. Lucero is currently working on organizing the E-Sports IISSAC tournament. Since there have been many questions on this subject, we decided to interview Mr. Lucero.
Who came up with this idea?
“It all began when Mr. Hendro was jokingly suggesting to have “Rocket League tournaments”which is a vehicular soccer video game since Soccer IISSAC was officially canceled. I immediately took the action of sending out emails to other schools.”
What schools might be joining?
“Mountainview Christian School, Bandung Alliance Intercultural School, and Bandung International School gave affirmative responses. Currently waiting to hear back from Bali International School and Surabaya Intercultural School.”
When will E-Sports IISSAC take place?
“It is still undecided but it might take place in October or November or it might later.” Will there be E-Sports IISSAC even after COVID-19? “If this works well, and we get positive feedback from others, we are hoping to make it as an invitational IISSAC every year.”
What games are going to be played?
“We are still not sure which games to play. We are currently sending out surveys regarding which games to play. We are planning to have a zoom meeting with athletic directors in other schools to discuss which games are allowed and which games are not. However, video games that are even remotely gory or violent won’t be included because we have all sorts of ages in our schools.”
Will there be spectators as well in E-Sports IISSAC?
“We are not allowed to have spectators in one place due to restrictions from the Education Department. However, we will certainly be streaming all of these through Twitch with the goal of having as large an online audience as possible.”
Do people need their own PCs and Consoles to participate in E-Sports IISSAC?
“Yes, we are looking forward to having PC games and free to play games because we don’t want students to be limited just because they cannot afford it.”
