Over the past years, Wesley has produced a lot of students with amazing artistic talent and has developed them through Art class. Wesley still has those young talents today! Although things were different this year due to COVID-19, and students weren’t able to get access to diverse art supplies and techniques in the school, they still excelled in their classes by using supplies from their own houses. It’s time to meet these young talents’ artworks and appreciate it. Here comes the Top 7 artworks created by this year’s Wesley students, as chosen by the Journalism Team.

7th Place - Bryan Hartono (Grade 12)

"It was just about drawing lines so I drew lines. No creativity, just technical. I worked much harder on my fonts utilizing my creativity and flexing my Photoshop skills, but apparently the journalism class can't distinguish between Picasso and furry Tumblr fanart. I wish that I was given the opportunity to show to the world the artwork that I was proud of rather than being recognized for soulless projects that acted similar to Lego building."

-Bryan Hartono

6th Place - Aria Newman (Grade 8)

"I wanted a good grade. That’s it. We were required to make a 2 point perspective city. I looked up pictures and drew it. There’s nothing special to it."

-Aria Newman

5th place - Huiju Jeon (Grade 7)

"Last quarter we were learning about one point perspective. So for the final work I drew a one point perspective city. While I drew this picture I thought about random buildings and remembered the pizza house I visited the day before so I drew the building similar to it and started to draw other buildings that matched that pizza house. I really enjoyed drawing with my imagination."

-Huiju Jeon

4th Place - Joshua Park (Grade 8)

"My art shows the street which took place in about 1990. I wanted to make this art into something old, like an old image of the streets. I didn't improve a lot because I drew this in my thoughts and there were plenty more shops, bars or apartments in this drawing that I could’ve drawn."

-Joshua Park

3rd Place - Bryan Hartono (Grade 12)

"This was made out of a collection of lines inspired by a picture I saw on the Internet of New York. It was technical and therapeutic like a jigsaw puzzle, but didn’t demonstrate the heart of art which is passion and expression. My other art pieces which I believed were much more representative of who I am was refused. I was going to not comment out of protest but the system has it so that is not a possibility. Yet again brilliance had been denied and the cycling of not exonerating a legend before his death continues."

- Bryan Hartono

2nd Place - Debrina Angelica (Grade 12)

"This artwork is a still life sketch of random items I found in my kitchen. I struggled with getting the shading right because even though it looks alright from afar, there are many small mistakes in the details, but Mr. Miki helped me improve these."

-Debrina Angelica

1st Place - Luke Kim (Grade 8)

"Well, I was just drawing random shapes on a paper and came up with this."

- Luke Kim
